A Little Visit With George and Ginny!

Mom Jill touched base the other day, reporting that Ginny and George (forever names still uncertain!) were settling in very nicely. Apparently the pair is quite frisky and keeping their new parents on their toes.

Sit back and enjoy visiting with our babies (yep, Jill & Peter, they'll always be "ours," too!). They have quite obviously found their own little slice of heaven!

Were you anxiously awaiting last night's post on Colston and Ashton?

You know, the one that didn't come?
Me, too! Unfortunately, life intervened last night!
Here's a shot of the handsome duo to tide you over until tonight!
:-)

And remember these guys? Well new Momma Jill has just sent us shots of Ginny and George, so they will be the subject of the Saturday Night Post (oh, I crack myself up!)

See ya later!

Ginny & George are reading already

And they're only three months old! Amazing! Here's a quick update from momma Jill:

We still haven't arrived on final names. The kitties keep showing new sides of themselves. For example, last night they read two entire issues of the New Yorker. They read it by flipping through all of the pages, chewing on some of them and burrowing under them. Oh yes, and running and pouncing on the magazines as well. One of them made a phone call, too. The feather was a huge hit.
Meow and thanks again.
Jill
P.S. Hope Gus is well.

A Quick Update from George & Ginny's Mom

Today is going fine. We put them in the bedroom (with all of their stuff). They've been doing everything imaginable :

smelling shoes, lounging, snuggling, roughhousing (taking turns being the aggressor), wrestling, eating, drinking, pooping, hiding, exploring, chewing on shoes, more eating...

It is fun to get to know them. Tonight we'll buy more toys, food, etc. I can't wait to get at them with a teaser!

Four is a Wonderful Number!

All four kids all piled into the carrier and we went on a field trip!
We stopped in on some friends and visited for a while. George pretty much made himself right at home.

After a bit of acclimation, Ginny and Percy discovered the joys of carpeted steps (much more fun to negotiate than those plain wood ones back home!)

And, it didn't take long for Fred to relax, either.

Our hostess, Jill, had been introduced to the Maples at the meet'n'greet at the 'tute, but this was hubby Peter's first opportunity to get to know them. Opposites do attract and, in this case, it was the most laid back (George) and the most adventurous (Ginny) of the siblings that just seemed right.

So, if you have two and add two, what do you get? Another wonderful foursome!
Jill and George and Peter and Ginny are now a new family! Let's wish them well as they begin their new adventure, together!!

Oh... and more good news, Jill and Peter are going to keep in touch! So stay tuned for follow up pics of George and Ginny in their wonderful new home!

Ginny & George & a Peacock Feather

Here's a bit of Ginny and George cavorting with a peacock feather and the circly-ball thingy. We are so lucky Sonia can provide us with the world's best cat toy (outside of an empty paper bag, of course). It's a toy that allows the kittens to play with each other, when the human hasn't taken it over. One kitten will pounce on one end which, of course, moves the other end, prompting a pounce by a sibling... and so on, and so on! Look for a little cameo in the video from our grand old lady, Winifred...

Yes, Winnie supervised the entire play session. The kittens are more comfortable with the Permanent Residents being in close proximity for long periods of time now. Still no lovin' up (Bitty and Winnie look interested), but some of the distance may be due to Momma Peggy Sue. She keeps an eagle eye on her offspring and I suspect the other adults are wary of coming too close.

The kittens totally cracked me up the day of introduction. There was hissing from Annie and Aggie. The kittens were unfazed - they kept on doing whatever they were doing. Peggy Sue, on the other hand, met the hisses with some of her own and the big cats scattered. Mom's hissing didn't faze the kittens, either. Given this, I find it interesting that the little ones will gradually move away when one of the Residents just sits and watches them.

All of our readers have been so wonderfully supportive (thank you, one and all!!!) and, today, I had the pleasure of meeting one of you in person! We have such very nice folks in our little community!! Thank you, FG, for your encouragement and for your support! It was just awesome to meet you!

A Quick Video of Each Little Maple

Here you go... more shaky camera work... more blinking red lights... more uncooperative kittens... more annoying baby talk! LOL! Just a couple of minutes with each one so you can see how much they've grown. Tomorrow they'll go to the vet for their first shots and the Doc says at that point they can meet the General Population! Should be an exciting day!

And don't miss the post below this, from Monica, on Abigail's Angels!

A little George, a little Angels & some excellent news!

Two quick videos of the kittens and some good news all around!

Everyone is doing so well... the Maples go to the vet on Monday for their shots and, hopefully, Doc Andrew will clear them to meet the General Population soon. I suspect Momma Peggy Sue is way past due for some "adult" companionship. If Doc says it's OK for them to mix, I'll give the Maples the den/spare bedroom "suite" so they can have a private place when I'm not here... and get them used to living digs other than a basement ;-). Miss Aggie continues to settle in with the GP - there are still some stand offs occasionally, but for the most part, peace reigneth!

Little George loves the belly rub but got a bit distracted by the blinking light. Brandon suggested I dig out the manual and figure out how to turn the darn thing off... LOL!

And just a little more of the Angels. Listen closely and you can hear Miss Abigail purring!

Finally... great news! Cecilia G. reports that Leopoldo has found a home! Yaaaay!

Happy 4th Week Birthday, Little Maples!

A birthday means party time, I guess! Little George has just been in a playin' mood all night and nothing changed when Momma Peggy Sue climbed in the crate and settled in to nurse! You could almost hear George saying, "No, mommy, no!! Want play!! PLAY!!!" Peggy Sue moved off to the outer courtyard and the other kittens bellied up to the milk bar. Not George! He continued to play by himself! Take a peek:

At one month it is time to introduce them to formula. I wish I'd grabbed the camera before I put down the food! As soon as the dish was in the compound, the kittens started sniffing the air... no joke! Just like animals scenting in the wild. Slowly they made their way over, heads up and sniffing, and all of them snuffled at the food. Fred dove right in... whole muzzle… backed off, cleaned his upper lip and then started lapping! Soon Ginny delicately tasted the milk Fred splashed on the rim and then went in for more. George and Percy were just starting to look like they’d join in when Momma Peggy Sue arrived on the scene. Once she stuck her head in, everyone backed off, except greedy little Fred!

In case you're wondering, I put a tiny bit of crushed kitten kibble on the other side so they’d start to associate the scent with food… I figured Mom would eat it, and she did. Next step for the dweebles will come later in the week - kitten wet food mushed in with some formula.

We are pleased to present Mr. George Mango Maples!

George was, indeed, the most popular of the boys names submitted. Although perhaps the introduction to the naming post swayed some votes.

Mr. George is the most solidly orange kitten so it was only fitting that he have Mango as a middle name. We have it on good authority that Mango was supposed to have been a girl's name so, rather than pick another, we have decreed that Mango is like Leslie... a truly unisex moniker. And Angie provided us a humorous link to a Chris Kattan character of the same name!

We established the precedent with Ginny, so here's a quick clip of George saying hello!
