AALAPW - Another 2 Fer - AC & Dez and Beatrice

Today we're doing a "right in our own cyberspace backyard" entry for Adopt A Less Adoptable Pet Week. And we have two entries from folks you know.

AC & Dez
Remember AC & Dez, the beautiful girls Webbthistle fostered and for whom she found a home? Well, this has been a real rollercoaster day for all of them. Webbthistle wrote a mere 1 1/2 hours ago that AC & Dez's new mom felt they hadn't bonded and that she wanted to relinquish them. They were to be returned to the shelter. Webbthistle was heartbroken and so worried for these girls, who are "past prime adoptable age."

But just a few minutes ago I received this wonderful, email:

Wow! Sometimes miracles do happen.

I just (15 minutes after writing that last message to you ) heard from AC and Dez's adopter.....she was leaving her office and heading home to pick up AC and Dez to bring them to the shelter when she ran into a co-worker who volunteered at Tails High - one of the no-kill rescue organizations she had previously tried. The co-worker made a call, and the girls are heading to a new foster home even as I write this. The Tails High person felt confident that they will find a new home.

What a blessing! First prayer already answered! Now, for forever home(s) for these sweeties!!!!!

Webbthistle

OK gang, time to crank up those purrayers again!! If AC & Dez's new foster mom is willing to share info an pics with us, we'll keep you posted and promote them here, too!!

A Home for Beatrice?

Even when it's not AALAPW, our little intertube community passes the word about cats in need of a good home. Here's a little gal that needs a specially gentle situation... follow this link and let Nico, the Poly Meezer, tell you all about her. Alasandra, who regularly passes the word about special critters in need, gave us the heads up about Nico's post!

That's the power of the intertubes... one tells another, who tells another! So many of us who visit are already fostering and helping as we can. So what about if today we each email JUST ONE person who we know is not yet plugged into the cyberspace adoption network and ask them to help spread the word, too... amazing things could happen! Believe it folks, WE CAN ROCK THIS!!

Thankful Thursday!!

First - Good News on Murph!
Whew, Pati sent some great news for us...

Just a quick update on Murph! The antibiotics are definitely working. He was playing with my yarn. Playing!!!! He hasn't shown any interest in doing anything like that until last night...
Pati

Oh, Pati, we are so happy for your little guy!! Those must be some good drugs!! Heehee!

Next - Excellent News for AC & Dez!
Webbthistle is just bursting with happiness! She reports on her girls-

Dez and AC are going together to their forever home on Saturday - and what a home! They are being adopted by a woman who is as sweet as they are. She has been too many years without a kitty because of landlord restrictions, but now she owns her own home and wants to share it with AC and Dez. The house has two stories and two screened-in porches - how perfect to laze away the summer! She's a photographer, so I am hoping for picture updates! The three of them are going to be a wonderful family - I am so happy for them, and have to admit I've shed a few happy tears already.

Fostering? Yes, it can take time and energy and be inconvenient. But as you know, Lisa, there are major emotional rewards, too. I would urge anyone who is thinking about fostering to call their local animal shelter and see if they can help.

And we'll sign off with a Sophie & Tony Update
Tony ate a full meal yesterday!! And today!! Now, if we can just get him to come out when I'm downstairs (he clearly comes out when I'm gone... the poop in the pan is a dead giveaway). Doc says not to push it. He'll come out when he's ready. Me, I want to get him to the Doc and get started on shots and moving him toward responsible mancathood! *sigh* Patience, grasshopper1

Sophie is fully acclimated now. She comes trotting over when I come down, or gives me a chirp from the bed and rolls over on her back for pets. She's eating like a horse and her little belly is sooooo cute when she's stuffed. I try to play with her at the door of the closet under the stairs (Tony's hiding place) so he gets a hint of what he's missing!

(This weekend we're looking forward to some absolutely adorable Rancho J2 pics!!)

News from Murph - Healing Purrs Needed!

This pic is from a couple of weeks ago right after Murph got shorn... Pati sent us a quick update. Unfortunately the news is not all good. Time to kick those purrs into high gear for our little guy.
"Just to give you a little update on Murph! He's adjusting well up here in hot, dry NJ. He loves all the attention from the kids - he tends to wait for them to come over and visit versus getting up to visit them. We are the felines' servants, aren't we??? He loves to sit on our laps and purrs up a storm.

Murph started to develop a cough and wheezing and meowing as if in pain if we picked him up under his chest. It turns out that he has a mass by his heart, which is pushing on it a little. His blood work also came back saying he's aneamic, his hemocrit is low, the mass is probably cancer, and his liver is starting to shut down. We don't know how long he'll last, but will let you know when things take a turn for the worse.

We don't for a second regret taking him in!!! At the moment, he's still eating, drinking, peeing/pooping fine. Hasn't lost anymore weight either. I was just hoping we'd have a chance to see his coat in all its beautiful glory! What's grown back so far is so soft and silky!

Thank you for picking us to be his caretakers...
Pati"

Pati, our healing purrs are with you!!

AC & Dez

Webbthistle reports, "Haven't gotten any good pictures of AC or Dez in the past few days - they are always running towards me. I will be trying again over this weekend. Even if the adoption goes through, because of processing time, Dez will be here through the weekend at least.

They just discovered the fun of Da Bird - it is great to see them play! Dez is very gentle and bats at it calmly, but you can tell that AC spent some time surviving on the streets by the intent way she tries to catch the prey! She even turns somersaults running after it. I'll try to catch a short vid."

Toasty Tuesday

Over 100 today and two days more predicted just like it. Here Bitty is taking advantage of the new, kitteh friendly, window sills... trying to get as much of the breeze on that floofy belly as possible!! Maybe we should all take a page from our kitteh's play book and slow down on these hot summer days!

And here's another shot of Dez, courtesy of Webbthistle. Wow! Will you look at those eyes!! Do you know someone who should get lost in those beautiful golden orbs? Every day? If so, direct them, here!

Over at the Little Pink Blog
New foster mom, Meg will satisfy even the most kitten hungry among us with her coverage of the Peanuts!! This may be one of the best documented foster litters ever!! 10 posts since Saturday, wow!

Blast from the Past
So, do you remember Gus and Patrick, the remarkable young man who adopted him? Well, Patrick sent along "The Eye of Gus," celebrating his buddy!

PSA Corner
FL area readers, Your Daily Cute's office kitteh is in need of a home, won't you stop by and meet her? My Bitty was an Institute office kitteh, so I've got a special place in my heart for Little Meow!

It's Contagious!!

Fostering, that is!! And that's a good thing! The first day of July, our friend Webbthistle responded to Bethany's alert that the WHS needed temporary fosterers and, yesterday, I found out about another of our friends responding to a similar need in California!!

Meet the Peanuts!
Long time reader, Meg, went on another "Wild and Absolutely True Adventure" and took the plunge into fostering. Would you please meet (clockwise from bottom right) Snoopy, Lucy, Charlie and Linus!! Aren't they just precious!

Meg's blogging style is breezy and fun, just like I imagine she is (sadly, we've not yet met 'cause she's in CA!). She's already put up several entries and I can't wait for more! If you'd like to join the party, just click on the link above! Scroll back to the "Itty Bitty I-Must-Be-Insane Committee" post (or click on the link in the post title here) to catch the story from the beginning!

Dez and AC
Meanwhile, first time fosterer, Webbthistle, is keeping us up to date with pics and stuff. Since this is a short term foster, we're honored to serve as her blog. First, shots of the ladies:

Lovely AC is enjoying the view! Much better than the cage at the shelter.

And sweet Dez appreciates the room soft bed on which to relax!

Webbthistle reported on Friday (the day after bringing the girls home):

"When I checked in on the girls for the last time last night, they were side by side on the bed, looking at the moon. When I came in this morning they were curled up together, sleeping in the same spot. I am so glad they have each other for company! They are already coming over for headscritches and snorgles, so I will pass yours along!

AC (which I read on her paperwork stands for Aniimal Control, because they found her on the street and brought her in - full name is DC AC, which is a hoot!) is not listed - I will push to get her up on the site too."

If you follow the links on the girl's names, you'll see Webbthistle was successful in getting AC her own profile! OK, folks, let's help Webbthistle find homes for these girls before they have to go back to the shelter!! If you are in the MD, DC, VA area please let your friends know!! Since they get along so well, wouldn't it be absolutely cool if they got adopted together!!! :-)

Fostering Update: 10am 7/5... It really IS contagious!! Caroline and Emmy over at Catonsville Cats just took 2 adorable boys for fostering!! Caroline reports Emmy is over the moon being able to be around kittens 24/7, instead of just visiting on Saturdays when they volunteer at the adoption center.

And From the Casa
Everyone is doing fine!! I've got some pics and short videos for you but I think we've had enough excitement for one day!! LOL! More tomorrow!

PSA News & Melted Kittehs

PSA News

Robyn, over at Love & Hisses has a PSA reprise of an urgent need - a PA shelter is closing -for mid-Atlantic state readers, and more. And Bethany, from Capital Animals, says the WHS still needs short term fosters for an big influx of kittehs. Finally, Robin, from Covered in Cathair, let us know about a foster in need of assistance to save some kittens from almost certain euthanasia in Henry Co., GA. It's a starfish moment.

Go on, take a moment and check them out.

No, I mean it, go check them out! We'll wait for you! ... OK, now you know the drill... pass it along good folks! You never know who knows someone, who knows someone. We've seen the power of the cat lovin' folk of the intertubes many times.

One of your own friends, Webbthistle, responded to Bethany's announcement yesterday!! I'm just all grins! Please meet AC and Dez, two young ladies from the WHS who are now comfortably ensconced in Webbthistle's spare bedroom.

Aren't they lovely?? Webbthistle reported yesterday,

"They are a tortie [AC] and a grey tabby [Dez], maybe each a year and a half old, and they have been sharing a cage since arriving at the shelter. I think this will be a good vacation for them. They were a delight on the looonnng rush hour trip home - I think they were really enjoying the sunlight!

Cagney hasn't discovered them yet - she is rarely on the 4th floor where the guest room is - but she will figure it out sometime tonight. All will be fine as long as the door stays closed.

One of the shelter workers said a lot of the cats and kittens are now being fostered, but still more are needed."

Webbthistle also mention the shelter is, sadly, in need of more volunteers and more room. Another good reason to support your local shelters and rescues. More to come on details about AC and Dez, but I'll leave this with you... since Webbthistle is a short term fosterer, let's help her get these sweeties adopted before they need to go back to the shelter! Wouldn't that be cool??

Melting Kittehs

Even though it's actually cooler here in B'more now (the weather broke Wednesday), everybody seemed to be stretched out and melting into the furniture. Here are two cute examples.
