I refuse to be sad (OK, maybe just a little teary, but in a good sort of way)! Murph's story is one of such caring and love it just makes me want to celebrate! First, Lee helped care for Murph's elderly mom in her last days and worked very hard to find him a home. My friend, pet-diva Cynthia, heard and passed the word to everyone she knew and asked Space Paws to post it. We did and gentle readers picked up his story and carried it to the CB.
And what happened next was truly amazing. Person after person, around the country, stepped forward to say they'd help make Murph's last days wonderful. Pati was the first in driving distance to write, her vet vouched for their family, and in days they'd scooped him up and made him their own. Imagine the comfort it gave Murph's mom to know her old boy would be well cared for... and that so many generous souls stepped forward to help!
Pati's message from this morning:
The last day or so was really tough on Murph. He went downhill within that time - very non-responsive, etc. He couldn't balance on his back legs and didn't even have the strength to poop, which he had been able to up until then. He even stopped eating yesterday, which was unlike him.So unfortunately this morning, we had to go to the vet for the last time with him and we got to be there with him, even though I don't think he knew we were there anymore. It's funny how fast we got attached to him! Thank you for picking us as his foster parents. I hope we were able to make his time with us as happy and healthy as it could have been. This decision is never easy and I know one always doubts if it's the right one, riddled with "what-if's"...but he's not in pain anymore now.6 months or 25 years - it's never long enough...I'd love to help out again somehow if there's a need. Love to all,Pati and Will (and Ian who's head Murph would sleep ontop of, and Sean and Taryn)
Please join me in celebrating Murph's awesome story!! And in thanking Pati, Will, Ian, Sean, Taryn, Lee, Cynthia, our readers, the CB and everyone who helped make this love story possible!
To quote the dad of one of the great folks who offered to take Murph, E.W. Tiemann, Jr., "There's too much bad in the world, so the good should be recognized and enjoyed!"
Its hard not to be sad about this news. I am so thankful that Murph was taken in to a home where he was loved and cared for and became part of a family for his final days. Thank you so much to Pati and her family.

My heart is breaking. There was something so sweet and loving about Murph. I was one of the people who wished to adopt him but was turned down because he would have had to fly to get to my home. I was sad that I could not have him in my life but happy he found a home that his people found more suitable. I hope he had a lifetime off joy and love compressed into the very short time he had left to live.
ReplyDeleteI hope that Murph somehow knows how much he was loved and wanted.
We are so sorry to hear about Murph. Please pass our heartfelt condolences on to Patti. But we are happy that his last days were filled with love. Now he joins his mom...who we're sure is happy to see him. Godspeed, Murph!
