Hi folks,
I'm sorry it's been so long since I've posted. At the end of last week I was busy because our basement here flooded (and work and stuff). Come Tuesday, I counted the work of the cleanup a piece of cake.
Grey had not been acting like himself since the end of last week, so on Monday I made a vet appointment for Thursday (yesterday). He seemed grumpy and out of sorts and, if that keeps up for more than a day or two with any of our guys, I like the doc to take a look.
I gave him the bathroom all to himself on Tuesday because the kittens seemed to irritate him. I noticed he only picked at his breakfast. Unfortunately on Tuesday evening, it was clear he was really not feeling well. It was just past Doc Andrew's closing time and the practice is closed on Wednesdays so they can be open on Saturdays. So I took Grey to the emergency vet.
Grey's bloodwork and an exray revealed his liver is enlarged. He wouldn't eat or drink at the Pet ER and he threw up what they syringed into him. They put him on IV fluids and prophylactic meds (antibiotic, stomach protectant, appetite stimulant). They kept him until he was transferred to Doc Andrew on Thursday. It was clear he may have been off of his food before Tuesday.
Doc did an ultrasound and a needle biopsy. The ultrasound didn't reveal anything but the enlarged liver. We got the biopsy results back today, but they were inconclusive. Grey is not eating or drinking now that he's home, either. There are lots of details, but the bottom line is we have a very sick boy and his condition has not been improving. I'm syringing small amounts of food and water at regular intervals and Grey is keeping that down but he just looks worse as the hours go by.
We have an appointment tomorrow morning with the doc. I'll let you know how things go. Please keep him in your thoughts.
Oh no, poor Grey, I'm so sad to hear that he's sick... I'm sending good thoughts and vibes his way, in addition to keeping my fingers crossed. Much love and many hugs to you, Lisa, for dealing with such difficult circumstances.
ReplyDeleteWe are sending healing purrs to Grey. We will be offline tomorrow but will check up on him as soon as we can. Even though we will not be able to visit Grey will be in our thoughts and purrs.
ReplyDeleteWe are sending Grey all our love and best wishes that everything is OK. Hopefully the vet can find out what the matter is and your sweet boy will be on the mend.

ReplyDeletePoor boy. How do these little friends get sick so suddenly.
ReplyDeletePoor Grey :( I've been reading up on enlarged livers since one of my cats, Piper, apparently has one (she's doing well right now though). She's on a prescription hard food (Hill's z/d, the kind without allergens) and a grain free soft food (Merrick's Before Grain). So far she's been eating more and doing a lot better.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you all. Sending prayers, healing thoughts and purrs to Gray!!! Hope he feels beet soon!
ReplyDeleteThat should be "better" not "beet"
