And you know his mom, Ali, already!! That's right, our Percy and Aggie are together in DC with an outstanding mom! They are now officially Zimmer and Kayla. :-)
Well, she seems nice! I like the cuddling!
I know, I know... you want the back story! OK, here it goes...
When Ali adopted Kayla, she said that ultimately she'd like a pair of cats and talked about adopting a kitten. Less than a week later, Ali called and said she'd was thinking a companion was a good idea sooner rather than later. She wondered what qualities she should look for in a kitten to make a good match with Kayla. I said, a kitten who is self confident, won't cower from a growl or hiss, likes to play and engage other cats... kind of like Percy.
Uhhhh... light bulb moment!
So, the weekend before last, I packed up Sir Percy and we headed for DC. Ali and I know that group dynamics can change things so we agreed to keep the arrangement quiet until we were sure the two would make it as a "couple." (Holding on to this news has been killing me!)
Uhhh... where are we going, pray tell?
They'd only been apart a week, but you'd have thought Percy was a perfect stranger when he arrived. Yes, there were growls and hisses and much consternation. Percy did a very un-Percy like thing and actually hid! I'd seen rocky reunions many times before, when a resident had a stay at the vet, so I wasn't unduly worried, but it reinforced our decision to see how it went.
Percy starts exploring as soon as he escapes the carrier.
Hissing'n'stuff stopped after the first day, but they were cautious around each other for a while. Kayla's nose was a bit out of joint at first (she'd gotten used to "Empress of the Universe" status)... she even shunned cuddling with Ali for a while (gahhhh!)... but over the last ten days the two have relaxed and started playing, sleeping near each other (even touching!) and Kayla is finally back to her snuggly self!
Play! I want to play! What do you mean, "Your string????"
Ali called today with the tremendous news that she's comfortable that they're going to make a happy family! Whoa, did I ever do the happy dance!! And, darn, I wish they were closer so I could have given them all big, sloppy hugs!! But mom Ali will just have to do the honors with her furkids for me!
OK, I'm ready for more 'splorin' nice lady!
OK, I'm ready for more 'splorin' nice lady!
You know, this time saying goodbye was so much easier because I've gotten to know Ali (we've talked every few days for the last 2 1/2 weeks!). We'll be visiting in a couple of weeks and will bring you more pics of the dynamic duo that Ali has brought into her life! Here at Space Paws, we couldn't be happier... these two have been lucky enough to find a wonderful bean who will pamper them within an inch of their furry little lives... as they (and she) so richly deserve! :-) Congratulations to Ali, Kayla and Zimmer!
Tomorrow, I'll bring you the video of our boy's last night here at Space Paws.
Hooray for Percy/Zimmer! I'll admit that I developed quite the soft spot for him these past few months, but could not be happier for him, Kayla and Ali. Hooray!!! I'll join you in the happy dance!
ReplyDeleteAwww, we're so touched that the arrangement is working out for the new happy family.
ReplyDeleteYay! I am so happy that Percy has found his furever home. Let me tell you there were many times I was tempted to get in the car and come snatch him away myself :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a sweet story! See, Percy, good things DO come to those who wait!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Ali! You've made to kitties so very happy (not to mention those two-legged fans both have here).
ReplyDeleteI should learn to proof my comments....of course I meant "two" ... not enough coffee in my system, I guess.
ReplyDeleteYay! So glad someone finally swooped up Mr. Percy. He looks like a real sweetie and I wanted to take him myself!
ReplyDeleteTerrific! I had worried about dear Percy not being adopted - now it is great to hear he is in such a perfect situation. Congratulations all around to the new family!!!
ReplyDeleteHurrah for Sir Percy! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteYay for the sweet young fellow! I'm glad!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for Percy, it's been a long time coming.
ReplyDeleteYAY!!!!!!!! We're so very happy for Percy/Zimmer.
ReplyDeleteHooray! So glad to see another adult cat find a home! Having the two be together again is a bonus! My kitty family sends hugs and purrs to Ali's kitty family. Thank you!

ReplyDeletewhat about mama peggy sue? how's she taking it? and when's she getting a home of her own?! (you sure ali doesn't have room for another? ;)
Oh wow! I'm so glad that little Percy found himself a wonderful new forever home! So so so excited for the little guy...I keep thinking about how itty bitty he was when he was born and what a handsome young man he's turned into :) So glad that he and Aggie will be playmates forever! Thank you Ali for opening your home and your heart to these sweethearts!
ReplyDeleteOh hooray,,I am soooo glad for the new family....and Zimmer is such a cool name.
ReplyDeleteOXOXO
TERRIFIC NEWS! Oh I was hoping for good things for Percy after his long wait. So happy for everyone.
ReplyDeleteAw, you've got happy tears in Silver Spring. I love these sort of happy endings :)
ReplyDeleteOh my, we're doing the happy dance too! That is so wonderful that they are together in such a great home!!!
ReplyDelete"(you sure ali doesn't have room for another? ;)"
ReplyDeleteWell, *I* like lots of cats. My lease, however, only like two cats, so two cats it is. LOL.
This is wonderful news!!
ReplyDeleteOMG! Congratulations Ali! Zimmer is such a coool name and it fits him so well. Love it! It's nice that Kayla has a buddy (even though she may think queen of the universe was pretty cool)
ReplyDeleteSo glad everything turned out OK and they are all one big happy family! So wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWhat awesome news! And boy, I didn't realize what a big boy he had gotten to be! And I love the name Zimmer - very unusual! It sounds like they are going to be a wonderful family and have wonderful lives!!
ReplyDeleteOH!! I actually said aloud, "Thank goodness!!" That dear boy knew what he was waiting for and I'm SO glad he did! This is most excellent news! HUGE congratulations to all!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for Percy and Aggie even if they have new names now. Their new mama looks like a really nice young lady.
ReplyDeletePercy/Zimmer looks a lot like my Dylan -- same coloration. I'm sure he'll settle in in no time. I'll bet Aggie/Kayla has marked her territory already, but I'm sure she'll accept him sometime soon.
Fantastic results! Kudos!
Thanks, everyone, for all the Percy love!!
ReplyDeleteAngie, Miss Peggy Sue is hanging in there. You can tell she misses someone to wrestle around with so I try to substitute on that! She's so playful!
