A Chat with Colston

Hi, I'm Colston! I asked the folks at Space Paws if I could tell my story.

I live with Ashton and a human family. It turns out our mom's biped baby is allergic to Ashton and me. Well, not just us, googies, too. But the bottom line is, fur babies are the only thing that make our little biped brother struggle to breathe. He has to take a LOT of medicine to breathe and even then he has problems. Mom and the man talked about this and talked about it and talked about it. Mom has been crying a lot lately. Even when somebody came to meet us. We thought she'd be happy, but she cried even harder.

Ashton and I have tried to tell her it's OK. We don't like our biped bro being sick and sure don't want her to cry. I thought if I told you about us, one of the nice Space Paws readers, or someone they know, would help find us a great new forever home!

So, about the two of us... first of all, we like to play! Together and with the people. (We like each other a lot and would really like to stay together. )

Me, I'm one laid back guy in the prime of life. I'm 12 (and don't let anybody kid you, life really starts at 8!!). If I do say so myself, I'm rather dapper, sporting a classic tabby in brown, with white accents. Suitable for framing, aren't I?

I find humans absolutely fascinating, particularly the smaller variety. Not every kitteh has figured out that you need to be as gentle with tiny bipeds as you are with kittens, but I caught on to that a long time ago. I'm not shy about speaking up and will be sure to tell you when it is time to crack open the stinky goodness.

I'm an indoor dude and I love to luxuriate, especially in a human's lap. On the days Mom works from home, I'll take up a post by her computer and make sure she sticks to the job. My heritage does come through sometimes! I'm a Norwegian Forest Cat and, when I see snow, I want out, out, out!!

My buddy, Ashton, is just a youngster of 6 and he's also a NFC.

He's been paying close attention to me and also knows how to play softly with the little humans. In fact he loves being around humans, period. He wears a reddish tan coat, also in tabby, and some people (especially that lady at Space Paws) find his white face quite dashing.

Ashton's particular specialty is sneaking into beds at night. Mom has figured out how to avoid his happy drool when she gives him his nightly loving (kids, they've got no manners!). He just loves the cuddles and our humans do give us plenty. We're on the lookout for a similar human family.

Ashton loves sports but can also be mellow, for a kid his age, and will hang out with me for some bird, bug and people watching.

Being responsible gentlemen, we allowed the vet to take care of those certain parts of our male anatomy (as the late night commercials would say) to be sure we didn't add to the kitteh population. The vet reports that we are in superior physical condition. Personally, I highly recommend vigorous play to stay in shape.

So please, Space Paws readers, talk to your friends and family... give us a hand finding a purrfect new home so our Mom and man can rest easy and our bitty biped bro can breathe easy.

And, Mom, we'll always love you... we know it will be hard on you not having fur babes and we'll be hinting to our new family that we should all stay in touch and maybe even visit, OK?

  1. Oh how beautiful they are, we've got to find them a forever home. I'll pass the word on Twitter. You didn't really say, so we will assume Baltimore area.

  2. I'm sure these two beautiful kitties will not take long finding a new home. Let's hope it's close to thier current home so that some visiting can happen. Allergies - not fun! Good luck!

  3. My heart breaks for the human mama of these two wonderful boys - I don't wish this kind of decision on anyone.

Colorado is too far away to allow for visitations, so our home won't work. But, I'll spread the word and maybe there is a Baltimore-area Forever Home out there in the grapevine somewhere.

  5. Oh, I wish we lived closer. I would love to add you two handsome guys to our home. It would be a huge plus if you liked doggies. Fenris is rather lonely as the other cats don't want to play with the puppy. But I am sure they would adore the two of you.

  8. You two are so good-looking. We feel sad for your mom because she has to give you up. No wonder she is crying. We really hope you get a new home with as much loving and attention as you've been getting there. And we definitely hope you stay together!

  9. My heart breaks for these guys too. Love that wonderful fur...and Colston is such a charming fellow!

Lisa, I failed miserably at adding a widget for Space Paws to my sidebar. I'll keep fooling with it, but meanwhile, I created a new page just for the animals. Go to my regular blog address and click on "ADOPT", whereIhave featured the boys, with a pic (hope it's OK). I think you were fine with this, but let me know if it's not OK for any reason. I'm very sensitive regarding privacy and such!

  11. Hi,

Have you considered posting this at the Baltimore Sun pets blog? It's at http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/features/mutts/blog/. It seems like a good place for help.

  13. I am guessing that North Carolina is too far away. If not let me know. However, I can only imagine how much their human mama is going to miss them and if they could find a home nearby so she can visit I would that ideal. Poor kid with the allergies too, they sound awful!

  14. Rachel, certainly a furever home close by would be ideal. But who knows how things will play out. Please do go ahead and drop me a line at hubblespacepaws@gmail.com so we can keep you posted.
    Hugs,
    Lisa

  15. My parents are in the middle of moving to the area, or else I'd definitely force them to adopt these two. They're so cute! Alas, they've been very firm--no new kitties until they find a house instead of an apartment.

  16. Norwegian Forest cats are wonderful. Naturally healthy, gorgeous fur that they keep very clean, and the best snugglers ever. They will make great pets for someone.
